Fished SVL half day, beautiful weather with no wind and no rain! Heavy Callibaetis spinner fall going on when I arrived, with fish jumping clear out of the water to catch the bugs in flight. Caught several nice bows/Donaldson's/brookies with a variety of patterns -- Adams Parachute, Barr emerger, BHPT, SnoBall Beetle, etc. Also some damselfly teneral's present with mating couples hanging around shoreline vegetation.
Someone's been fishing this property with salmon eggs and worms, as evidenced by the containers they left behind -- poachers no doubt. I suspect that several of SVL's fish are ending up in local frying pans.

I caught over three dozen fish in two days! I caught fish in clear water, stained water, in the rain and sunshine, morning, noon and evening. These were not little fish either. Only about six were smaller than 16 inches. Biggest was 24 inches and very heallthy. It was unbelieveable that so many fish could come out of two small ponds, one that is very small. My only regret is that I don't believe that I will be able to duplicate that action again, but you can be sure that I am going to try!

While most rivers are still blown out this little creek was a bit high but quiet clear. The water on the lower portion was moving pretty fast and I didn't pick up any fish down there. I caught about a dozen fish on dries and about a dozen on nymphs. All were Browns except 2 16+" Rainbows hooked and landed on a Golden Stone and a small P-Tail. On the top Stimulators, Elk Hare Caddis and P-Adams all caught fish.

I fished for about 7 hours (08:00 - 3:00). Lots of fish cruising and a few rising on and off. For some reason the fish didn't appear to be too hungry. There were a lot of fish that would come right up to my flies and reject them. I changed patterns many times and tippet from 5x to 6x with little success. I did pick up some smaller fish on Damsel nymphs and Copper Johns.
I did end up landing 8 to 10 fish with 4 fish over 16" including two Donaldson Steelheads and one Rainbow over 18" that were very fat and very strong.
All in all a great day of fishing.
